Nocturne for Nowhere
Between a ring of spires, magic is all but purged; those who wield it, eradicated. The world fell long ago, but as hidden forces tighten their grip, life‑shattering secrets threaten to surface. Soldiers raze towns in search of something. A blight of decay seeps through forests in ravenous, inky tendrils. Rumours of a savage monster spread like wildfire. And in the eye of a storm that seems to flit in and out of existence, three outcasts are drawn toward the catalyst.
A witch who speaks only to crows must leave her forest to save it.
A conman who survives on wit and secrecy tries to outrun the changing world, only to be pulled deeper into grand machinations.
A disillusioned former soldier follows a perilous trail on the word of an old friend who claims an answer has arrived.
And a strange woman caught between death and dreams seeks the unknown with burning intensity. Both Alice and the White Rabbit, the lost and the lure. Following the lights is dangerous – unless you’ve found them once before.
Beneath it all, the hand of the Hollow King is moving, and if the legends are true, nothing awaits but ruin.
About the author
Hi, I’m Erren.
I’m a queer and gender‑queer writer living in England, and I write queer fantasy. When I’m not writing, I’m making art, reading – mostly horror and classics – making truly terrible music, or forgetting why I walked into a room. I’m also prone to falling down late‑night research rabbit holes and have a fascination with theoretical physics, obscure history, psychology, and philosophy. For relaxing, I adore paranormal content – though I can’t say I believe in it. Yet. I remain hopeful.
Mental health, neurodivergence, and the different ways people navigate life are very important to me, and I weave those experiences into my characters. Character‑driven stories – no matter how surreal the setting – are my thing, though I may also have a million‑word lore document I’m afraid to open.
Random facts: I love moths, ravens, and octopuses; weird jewellery, old lamps, and a good dark cabaret. My drinks of choice are strong coffee and ginger tea, and I have a small collection of pocket watches.
I love talking about the craft, so if you’re a writer, feel free to say hi. I’d also love to meet other artists or anyone who wants to chat about creative things and support each other.
Okay, bye.
